You know those jeans you don’t wear anymore… but you also can’t bring yourself to throw away?
Maybe the zipper broke, maybe the knees ripped, maybe they just don’t fit — but the denim is still beautiful.
Well, this project is exactly where those jeans get a second life.
A denim wine bag is one of the easiest and most charming DIYs you can make. It turns even a simple bottle of wine into a thoughtful handmade gift — and honestly, people LOVE receiving something wrapped this way because it feels personal, cozy, and intentional.
Whether you’re preparing gifts for Christmas, birthdays, housewarmings, or even selling handmade items at a local craft fair, this wine bag is a thoughtful, eco-friendly upcycled project that anyone can make.
Below, you’ll find a step-by-step tutorial to turn old jeans into a beautiful denim wine gift bag.
Materials You’ll Need
- A leg from an old pair of jeans
- Scissors
- Fabric glue or sewing machine (both options available)
- Ribbon, twine, or denim strip for the tie
- Optional: lining fabric
- Iron (optional but helpful)
How to Make a DIY Denim Wine Bag

Before we start: a quick tip
Choose a denim leg that isn’t too tight.
Skinny jeans make the bag feel squeezed.
Regular denim gives a nicer, more relaxed fit around the bottle.
Okay — now we’re ready.Bag (Super Easy)
Step 1 — Cut the denim leg
Take one leg of the jeans and cut a section about 36–40 cm long.
You’re basically cutting a denim “tube.”
Think like this:
When you slide the bottle inside later, the top of the wine bottle should peek out a bit — not disappear.
A little tip:
If the jeans have a naturally distressed or faded center, place that in the front.
It gives the bag a beautiful, rustic look without any extra work.
Step 2 — Close the bottom
This is the “bag-making moment,” and it’s easier than it sounds.
- Turn the denim inside out.
- Run a line of fabric glue across the bottom opening.
- Press firmly for 1–2 minutes.
- Let it dry completely.
If you want extra strength, do a second line of glue.
Wine is heavy — better safe than sorry!
A tip from experience:
If any glue squeezes out, wipe it quickly with your finger before it dries.
Once it dries, it becomes stiff.
Step 3 — Turn right-side out
When the glue is fully dry, turn the denim right-side out again.
And just like that…
you’re holding a little denim bag.
It already looks adorable, doesn’t it?
Step 4 — Add the ribbon
Slip the wine bottle inside.
Now wrap something around the neck of the bottle:
- Ribbon for a fancy look
- Twine for rustic charm
- A denim strip for a fully upcycled style
- A piece of leather cord for something elevated
Tie a bow or a simple knot — both look great.
Cute ideas:
• Add a small gift tag
• Add a dried orange slice (cute for Christmas)
• Add a sprig of eucalyptus or rosemary
And… that’s it.
Done!
